Night Out, Grooming & Brighton

by Matt on Aug.26, 2009, under Blogs

Is it me or has this week gone pretty dam fast? Well to me at least it has, so to ensure you get your weekly fix here it is.

Last Thursday saw me having to go to my weekly session of being patronised & spoken to like an idiot by an idiot. The place was of course the job centre. I never ceases to amaze me how those fools who work there as they are too thick/lazy/uneducated/plain boring to work in the private sector & only way of having any satisfaction is to try to be awkward (which they do rather well) & condescending to people who are looking for jobs that the imbeciles cannot even dream of applying for :-) So in I went, gritted my teeth & agreed with what the fool said. It is amazing but I have learnt to keep my big mouth shut & just agree with them, that way they sit there thinking they are all knowing (rather than not knowing anything which is more accurate) & let me go quicker.

In the evening P & I went to the West End (should west end be capitals?) as a good friend of mine, well I guess now he is a friend of us both, anyway a good friend had got tickets for 2 shows. The first (close your eyes those sensitive souls out there) one was imaginatively called ‘Fucking Men’ needless to say its an American production. But apart from that I enjoyed it, I found it pretty funny, & thought it was good. There is no one famous in it, its a small production but I felt this added to it & made it more personal & so more entertaining. Then there was a brief intermission in which time we decided to be very upmarket so went to McDonalds(yes Chuckles only 2 paragraphs in & eating already), our friend wanted to go to the toilet & made the huge mistake of sitting down to politely wait, rather than just pushing his way in which seemed to be the recognised way of getting into the loo.

The second play was called ‘Naked Boys Singing’ its a musical about, well come on if you cant guess then I have no doubt I will see you at my next appointment at the job centre. Though much to my disappointment they don’t actually get naked until near the end of the play. Its quite tongue in cheek (no pun or sexual act reference there) & pretty funny, in places its very funny. The cast are quite eclectic so there tends to be one for everyone (again no pun). I have to question how they don’t do themselves an injury though dancing around as they do with no support!!!

After the shows we all agreed, after much discussion & the end decision being left to me (I have a feeling it was to quell any moaning that may come if we went somewhere somebody else suggested, Trollcant think why they would think that of me though) to go to The Friendly Society. I like it there, its very cool & I love the decor there. We spent the first 20 minutes in there trying to decide if this girl/boy next to us who insisted on dancing like she was having an epileptic fit, & did the same kind of wriggling gyrating (though not at all alluringly given its a gay bar) dance to each track. I digress, we spent the first 20 minutes trying to decide if this person (I use the word very loosely) was a real girl, a lady boy (we were budding for this one) or a feminine boy. It turned out it was an ugly, attention seeking (considering she was in a room full of gay men this is an achievement) girl. But at least it gave us a good topic of conversation. It was a pleasant time though, we all had a rather jolly time which is always good. And I hate to disappoint but I remained sober.

Friday I was supposed to take the little Rat Boy to be groomed but I had at the last minute been Beforegiven the opportunity to go for a job interview (which I needn’t have bothered attending as I didn’t get it, would far rather have gone with Milo). So our best friend kindly came over & got Milo to take him. I was very nervous & concernedAfter about it as it was his first time at this groomers. He is a little nervous when first meets a groomer & hates water so I tend to be having kittens whilst I wait to see how he is. But I needn’t of worried as he was, so I am told, fine. I also worry as the Schnauzer cut is quite complicated so I am always questioning whether he has been cut properly until I get to see him myself. So as you can imagine like the doting father that I am I was on the telephone every 10 minutes to my best friend to enquire on the well being of the little angel. So I rushed home after my interview to see him, Milo that is not my best friend, & he looked really good. I have to say I was rather impressed as they have done a really good job, as you will see from the picture. I am really pleased I have finally found somewhere I can take him & know they will do a good job.

Saturday I had booked tickets for us to go to Brighton. I reluctantly had agreed to let Milo stay with our best friend so we could go out & not have to worry about where we could & couldn’t go as have to worry about whether Milo can go in. So on the train we jumped, got seats, which was a miracle in itself and down to the south coast we went. I really don’t know why we don’t go more often as it only takes 50 minutes. We went round the Laines first (yes I did spell it correctly) which is cool, I like the Laines, very cool. We then decided to get some donuts from the pier which were nice (say goodbye to the bloody diet), then we walked to have a look round the marina, on the way a seagull swooped down & stole a load of donut from out of Ps hand, if only I had a camera in my hand. Gee its changed there are loads of empty shops there where they have closed down. We then went to Asda, not a pleasant experience at all, to look for the elderflower cider that I had been looking everywhere for. Isn’t it typical that they had it there, miles away from home so I couldn’t get quite a few, so I got just 4 as well as one I wanted to try, strawberry & lime flavour, jolly nice it was too.

On the way back P noticed that we were passing the nudist beach, being one of the nosiest (after me) people ever he wanted to go & investigate, though I am more convinced nose about would be aBeach better description. So we went & sat down, now don’t get exciting visions in your head as I kept all my clothes on & P had his trunks on. I found it vile, P found it amusing, that these people were sitting there playing with themselves, presumably as no one else would touch them. Why is it always the old, fat, ugly, or a combination of all three that are doing that type of thing? Its never the cute guys, perhaps there is a message there somewhere! Message being you can tell you don’t have a hope in hell of pulling g if you find you are sitting there alone pulling yourself in public!!!! Dirty bloody gits they are, it took all my will power not to say something, rather loudly, or throw a stone at them.

We then headed to a Chinese place where we thought we had been before & was good. So we trekked all the way & sat down, ordered. I had hardly eaten that day so was pretty hungry so was really looking forward to it. The food arrived, apart from my egg fried rice, & it was the worst Chinese I had eaten in along time, it was bland, boring & had hardly any taste whatsoever. The weird thing is that the place was pretty busy so perhaps they have their taste buds removed I Brighton. They then forgot my rice so I had to wait for that, wasn’t worth waiting for either when it came as it was pretty tasteless. So I would not recommend the place, nor would I be so tactless as to mention that its name is Famous Sichuan.

On Sunday a friend of ours was up from Devon, he was spending the weekend stalking Madonna!!!! :-) He took time out of doing that to come & see us. We firstly went to the movies, go to the review page to see my thoughts of the film. After the movie we decided that we wanted something to eat (do we ever do anything but eat I wonder) so we went to West India Quay to try & find somewhere to get something, & find somewhere we did, Bar 38 (though unlike one of our friends who had previously been there, we paid the bill). I had the roast dinner, it being Sunday, which I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed, it was very tasty. After that we went to the local gay bar, I wanted to play pool, but the table was broken. We had a very pleasant time though as it was nice to sit there chatting, okay admittedly I did most of the talking!

Monday I had top go to bloody Brent Cross, which is miles away, as had to go see an agency about a job. It turned out it was not a wasted journey as the lady set up an interview for the next evening.

Yesterday I went to the Doctor as I am having quite a bit of pain in my foot & my wrist. It seems that I am doing a bit to much torture as she suggested that I am overdoing it & causing injury to myself, how butch am I (its a rhetorical question)? The pain in my foot it seems is down to my landing wrongly on the treadmill & running too much. The pain in my wrist was as I had suspected. A few years ago I dislocated my thumb, cant remember the details but no doubt it was doing something extremely manly. So it seems that this has weakened the joint (I neglected to point out that I spend hour upon hour on my BlackBerry, thus not providing the opportunity to be told I shouldn’t use it) & it therefore inflames periodically now. So she kindly gave me some pills for the inflammation & advised I wear a support when its hurting. But the worst thing is she recommended I don’t go to the torture chamber this week, thus far I have not been but think will go o Friday as I don’t want to end up even fatter than I am already, else I have serious doubts I will be able to get through the doors.

Then last night, at 7.00pm, I had to go for the interview that was arranged for me. It was in the Home House in Portman Square, its really nice there. I have never had such a  long interview in my life, I was there for 2 hours. But I have to say it went rather quick as the guy interviewing me was really interesting & for the first time ever I actually enjoyed an interview. It must have been constructive as I have already been asked to go for a second interview tomorrow, though in the morning this time & at the office, well meet at the office then go to a Starbucks was suggested, hope they do soy latte! So do all please keep your fingers & legs (those that are able to still close them for longer than 5 minutes) crossed for me.

As ever a hello to Stan’s mum who continues to be a good friend, though should really be speaking to me a lot more reverently in my opinion. A hello to little Stan & even Sid has been tolerable this week, unlike Sam who insists on trying to mount my innocent, angelic little boy, mind you with a mum as batty as Sam has its quite understandable he would get some relied anywhere he can.

And so my dear friends I wish you a great week & will be here again next week to chat, please do join me.

U2, Parks & Hair

by Matt on Aug.19, 2009, under Blogs

What a week its been, its so sunny, am completely loving it, tan is coming along well, what else is going well,

Last Thursday saw mw in the park with the Rat that is known as Milo. When the sun is out then its a great place to go, its a bit like a meadow, Milo can run around, well he more jumps & bounces as the flowers & grass is too high for him so he has trouble just running normally through it, he looks akin to a demented kangaroo. I can sit & watch him, or just generally chill & contemplate on the world passing me by & life in general, gee I must be getting old. We have been spending quite a bit of time there of late. with me having no job its nice to go somewhere I like & not having to pay out a lot of money (that I clearly don’t have). The past few days P has been coming over as well as been off of work for the week. Milo of course has a ball over there (literally as we have lots of tennis balls hidden in various trees for him, as I having the fruit flies memory always forget to take them) as he gets to play, mess about & generally make a nuisance of himself getting into as much mischief as he can, which isn’t inconsiderable!

Friday was completely awesome, like amazing. A friend had a few weeks ago asked if I wanted to go to the U2 gig (that’s a concert to you non music fans (or old farts)) with him. I said yes as was interested in what it would be like, I liked quite a few of their songs, U2 not my friends, but could not be called a fan as such. So we got on the tube, I had dumbly suggested the Jubilee line, not one of my better ideas as I then remembered that tom get to Wembley the Metropolitan line would be far quicker, still never mind as we got there in plenty of time. The boulevard on the walk up to the stadium was like heaven to me as the concert is sponsored by BlackBerry so there were lots of their stands there, the promotion team were a bit rubbish though as didn’t know the answers to any of the questions I had, maybe I shouldn’t be asking them the chemical compound of a Blackberry casing!

Once we got into the stadium it immediately struck me that we had to get our priorities right so off Stageto the toilet I went! When we got onto the pitch the sheer size of it hit me, the place is huge, and at the end of the pitch there was this immense stage set. As I am sure you have read by now it is designed to provide a 360 degrees viewpoint. There was a massive four legged structure that was enormous, going through the middle is a large spear like object a bit like the spear on Predator that the aliens use. The stage itself is large & round with moving walkways that lead to an outer walkway. First of all a indie type of group came on called The Hours (I misheard & sent a message to friends & Twitter saying the Owls were on, maybe I listen to Harry Potter audio books a tad too much), they were from Sheffield & seemed really good, unfortunately the microphone was echoing rather a lot but they still put a pretty good show. Then on came Elbow, they were outstanding, the lead singer has such an amazing voice, only problem we had was that my friend & I were taking pictures, or attempting to, & the guy doesn’t take his hand or arm away from his face so getting a decent picture was hard, rather he looks like an elephant.

Then smoke started coming out of the spear like object, and from round the legs of the spider structure, to the sound of Space Odyssey, which for me was an excellent start as the song is simply one of the all time classics that never dates. The the drummer came on, then the guitarists before Bono himself came on. There was a massive, like huge circular screen above the stage that also lit up. The crowd went ballistic, it seemed that U2 are one of those groups who not only have fans but also have fanatics, one girl, well in her early 30’s was holding her hands to her face & almost cryingBono as she sang along to the songs, which I have to say Bono made a far better job of doing than she did. The atmosphere was simply electric, the group, not just Bono, really do pull out the stops & you can see the pure passion for the music in their faces & their performances. This is not a show as we have come to know concerts, no theatrics, no masses of dancers, not even backing singers, just the four of them, but it was captivating, I was awe struck by the gig. The sound started off a bit sketchy, but that was due to equipment not Bonos voice, which I was surprised to note was crystal clear & exactly as it sounds on CD’s. I went there expecting to see a concert but came out speechless at just how amazing it was. One of the best, if not the best concerts I have seen, & for me to say that about a group I could previously give or take shows how good a performance they provided, this was great music for great music’s sake played by people that clearly cared for their craft. I owe a massive thank you to my friend for taking me, so here publically I say thank you.

FoodYesterday saw us going down the road to the Prospect of Whitby, which those in the know will recognise is the oldest riverside pub in London. We had actually been meaning to go there for quite some time but never seemed to get there, which is rather dumb as its literally 5 minutes down the road, I guess laziness would be the short answer, though not the one I would like to give. But we have eventually dragged ourselves down there. And awfully glad I am, its really nice, we went at lunchtime so it was pretty quiet, the food is really nice too, a return trip though, just to verify this, is called for.

Today we went to Hyde Park, well it makes a nice change from the local park across the road. The weather was so glorious that I decided to shock the whole area into vomit mode by taking my topMilo off, I am getting very tired of having a tanned face & arms but looking like the black & white liquorice allsorts when I take my top off, so hopefully I have begun to balance it a little better now. It was rather pleasant, my best friend & I got the bus, Rat Boy in tow, & walked along Piccadilly to get there. J went on the tube & stopped off at China Town to get us some lunch, which was rather pleasant, especially as he also got a bottle of wine. So I sunbathed, drank wine & listened to music whilst Rat Boy trampled all over me!

This evening our hairdresser came round to cut our hair, as I am sure you will recall, hard not to given I ranted on about it for quite some time, last time he cut my beloved fringe off. It has grown back nicely this past couple of months so I was insistent that I keep it this time. He is, I am rather relieved to say, back to his former self, & did a rather marvellous job of my hair again. Its shorter at the sides & back & still longer on top, with my fringe still in place. So I am rather pleased all in all with that. I must say its nice to have it styled again & in one that I actually like, being rather narcissistic at times my hair not being the way I like it is rather drastically upsetting for me!!!!!

As ever my hellos to Sid & Stand mum who is back from her holiday, larger than ever, louder than ever & dropping more h’s than ever, as for that bloody dog, he got close to me the other day, wow his breath is foul beyond foul, in fact the military are after him hoping to use him for chemical warfare.

You all subscribed to BOOM! yet??? If not why not don’t you want to be hip & cool & have cool music to listen to along with Chuckles eloquent tones, two for one, what a bargain. And whilst on that subject who is on Twitter?

And that my friends is another week gone, same time next week?

Rather Short One This Week

by Matt on Aug.12, 2009, under Blogs

Good day readers, hold on fast here we go. Its a bit of a short one this week am afraid as been catching up on movies & trying to find a job, alas to no avail as yet.

Had pretty shit time of it lately, but have to say I am looking at things a lot brighter now.

Last Thursday I had the usual dreaded interview at the job centre. I am still loathing that place, what really grates is that you get these officers who know nothing trying to get you to apply for a job that is clearly for a school leaver just above minimum wage, you feel like saying ‘did you actually read the job description or do you see that part as optional’ They really are rubbish, no wonder so many people don’t sign on, I only go as I am so old so don’t want my pension affected!

I then went to see a friend for lunch (wait Chuckles, & indeed mum, I didn’t eat) in London Bridge. We went to a place I had passed on numerous occasions but never actually been into, its a bar, well that’s a bit of a upscale of it, its a pub. It is though quite nice, its friendly & my friend had lunch, though he chose something that looked vile, tuna & cheese on toast, yukkie. But the fries were nice & the portion was large. It was good to see my friend, have known him for quite a few years. It was pretty sunny so was really nice to sit, watch him eat his cat puke & chat whilst watching the world go by, a rather nice way to spend a lunch time.

Sunday I was meeting another friend, as you do, in Paddington. So I decided to cycle there. I really think it says something about London that it was quicker, & cheaper to cycle there than it was to get bus or tube, a lot less stuffy as well. Lost a few calories doing it as well so that’s fantastic. I went to meet him for several reasons, he lives in the back of beyond, the darkest depths of Devon, middle of land of the lost, so I usually try my best to see him when he is in London. But also as he had ordered a new front & track ball for his BlackBerry so I went along as they had been delivered to my place, to fit them for him. He now has a gold back, gold front & purple track ball, looks pretty cool I think. So we sat there, he ate (I am seriously into this not eating too much to try & lose weight) whilst I put his BB together & we chatted.

I then cycled home & felt like getting out so took the little Rat out to the park, we played a little & I generally enjoyed just chilling & watching him play about making a nuisance of himself to everyone who passed by.

I had arranged to have dinner with J so I then headed down to West India Quay & I decided that we would go to La Tasca. Not one of my better decisions it turned out. The sangria was really nice, but the food was a little bit of a let down. It use to be really god there & I had always enjoyed it in the past. This time though was a let down. First of all we ordered bread but it never came, that’s always a bad sign I think. The 2 dishes that I ordered from the specials menu were not available (so why have the specials menu?) so I had to choose something g else. When the food came it was okay, quite nice but not great. But it was nice to get out & sit & eat dinner whilst talking, better than sitting in. Sp all in all I had a good time.

Yesterday evening I went to a friends place in Barking, he has just got a new flat. Its a really nice flat, has 2 balconies, which I think is really cool, a lovely open plan kitchen & living area, its a new build & I think its really cool. It was very pleasant indeed to see the flat, & then sit & chat, gossip, talk with no television on just music. As most of you know whilst I love movies I actually have a real dislike for television, so to spend an evening talking without it was fantastic.

Today I went to meet my friend (who farts in the cinema) at lunchtime in the West End, as she works there. We went to this bar in Soho, she had quite a nice tuna salad, but I chose Caesar salad, it was lank, boring & not much to it at all, but at least it didn’t have any calories!!! Its always fun to see her as she is so funny, we kind of get on really well & talk about most things. We used to go out regularly to get drunk & have a laugh (use to amuse a lot of people when we were drunk!!) so today we planned the next time we are going to do that, cant wait, it will be immense fun. We also chatted about her flat, everyone seems to have a new flat. She is having problems with the suppliers, I said she should just go kick their heads in then go elsewhere for the bathroom & kitchen, she was taking the easier (or diplomatic) route & negotiating with them. Too nice for her own good me thinks.

As ever I have been going to the bloody torture chamber that they call the gym every week day. Why is it that when you go they always say to you ‘have a nice workout’ are they bloody kidding everyone knows that its pure torture to go, that its the last place you want to be. But I still go, hey at my age what the hell choice do I have?

Stand mum has gone for a well deserved holiday this week so no messages to the terrible twosome.

I do hope that you have all subscribed to the legend that is the podcast BOOM!!!, if not shame on you, do so now.

Will be back here next week, until then have a fantastic week & thank you for reading.

Chatty, More Meals & Catch Ups

by Matt on Aug.05, 2009, under Blogs

And so another week has passed, and with it another blog entry is here to excite & titillate you.

Last Thursday the job centre sent me on a course to help me get a job. Great I thought this will be a complete waste of my time as those fools have never done anything to help me in the slightest. So in a bad mood (the way I seem to always be of late) I set off, fucking Farringdon it was in, its such a shit place to get to, very awkward indeed. Anyway get there I did, early as usual, I do hate tardiness. We had to give in our CV & the covering letter we use for job applications, I had no worries about this as my friend (one who farts in cinema) had helped put mine together so knew it was HR friendly, lots of kissy kissy hugs & love you darling. I was astounded, flabbergasted as the course was really helpful, I found it really interesting. It was of course held by an external organisation to the DWP, an in-house one would be rubbish. The facilitator was really good, made the group, of 6, feel at ease, didn’t patronise or condescend (definitely not DWP then) & really seemed to want to help. When our CV & covering letters came back mine were marked, as if at school, excellent, how cool am I!!!!

In the afternoon I took that little Rat for a walk to the park. I have been doing that a lot lately, I find it really relaxing to take Milo to the park & just sit there or play with him. There is a part of the park that is overgrown, its called the meadow, & so its quite natural & looks nice, I find it quite calming. Its fun to sit & watch Milo running & jumping through it all as the flowers, weeds etc are taller than he is.

Friday I had tickets to go & see Alan Carr’s show, Chatty Man, being filmed. I had invited Stand Mum, she managed quite well as didn’t swear much at all, my best friend & P also came along. The Alanstart of the evening was a nightmare as one of our party was so late that we ended up having to meet at the DLR station rather than at home. But we did get there & it was really cool. The warm up bloke did exactly the same routine that he always does, I cant see why he doesn’t change it about a bit as it really is quite boring when you have seen it a couple of times. But the actual show was pretty good. Gok Wan was as he always is, smarmy & trying to charm, most people seem to like him but I have to say I am not a big fan, he did seem quite genuine & a nice person though. Patsy Kensit was pretty… boring, looked old & haggard & really didn’t have anything funny or interesting to say, it must have been like pulling teeth for Alan Carr to interview her. Calvin Harris mimed his way through his track. The surprise was Amanda Holden, I cant stand the programmes that she is on & don’t find her at all interesting or funny. But she was pretty funny & very witty on the show, I would have to say probably the most entertaining. Alan Carr was very funny, as he always is, his wit is pretty quick & he seems quite sharp, despite trying to appear otherwise.

After the show P was hungry, as ever, so we spent the usual half an hour deciding what & where we wanted to eat. This wasn’t helped by the fact that Stand mum is a veggie, nothing g actually wrong with that but it gives me something extra to bitch about. So we settled with China Town as it transpired she eats sea food (its ok to suffocate a fish but not to put a bullet in a cow). We went to one of P’s favourite places which is on Gerrard Street, its a really nice restaurant, the food is really nice too as is the atmosphere. Of course it was made far better due to the great company, those of you who know me will attest to the fact that I am quite gregarious & enjoy being in the company of friends, & I really get on well with my best friend (guess that’s why he is my best friend!) & Stan’s mum. So on balance a great evening was had by me.

Saturday came & one of my friends had said we could go to Costco, I normally love to go there, & I did enjoy it this time, its just rather frustrating to go there when I have no job so am on a budget, not a good feeling for me. But it was still good & I got some nice stuff. I especially go there as they have really good lens cleaners that are great for anything from PC, glasses & BB as well as phones. It was of course good to see my friend as well, I do feel sorry for him, he is not only ginger but Canadian the poor soul, life must be so rough for him. But he is still a very good friend & we always have quite a fun time chatting & generally bitching about all & sundry.

Yesterday I saw a good friend for a what is supposed to be monthly catch up but we seem to have missed a month, I think. I have been going to the torture chamber about 4-5 times a week of late, & we meet at my favourite Patisserie (I didn’t need to look up how its spelt :-) so indulged in a slice of cake, they do the best iced coffee as well so had to have one. As it ever seems to be it was great to meet with him as he is a cool guy, so easy to talk to as well, we enjoy nothing better than sitting outside & gossiping whilst we bitch about the people passing by. Its a custom that I wholly believe we should continue.

Today, P & I have just got back from the Thai (yes chuckles more eating) cafe that we like. We had been to the movies & decided that we would go to the café as its not too far & reasonably priced asThai well as the food being nice, too nice in fact as we ordered too much as usual & couldn’t eat it all. But its really authentic & traditional place, it was advertised once in Time Out & when more people started going they closed it for a while as they don’t like it to be busy, in fact we were the only ones in there so had their undivided attention which was cool. The curry that P ordered was so hot that even he was sweating, I think I have only actually seen him sweat about three or four times since we met (no dirty comments thank you Stan’s mum), so the curry must have been hot. I had sweet & sour salmon which I have never heard of let alone had before, I was concerned the sweet & sour would overwhelm the delicate taste of salmon but it was mild so it complemented it really well.

As ever a hello to the lovely, refined (well one can imagine) & caring Stan’s mum, she is great. Hello to Stan & a sod off to the naughtiest dog on the planet, the dreaded Sid.

treadmillI mentioned above that I have been going to the torture chamber a lot lately, I have found a way that makes the treadmill bearable, I go on it for 30 minutes each time, & I hate it, I find it tediously boring. But I have a remedy now, its the podcast Boom! I put it on & its hard not to chance on the treadmill, in fact this morning I was almost dancing & nearly fell off. Its great so all you people like me who find it boring download Boom! each week.

Good day, thank you for reading, I appreciate it.
