Movies and Drinking/Eating

by Matt on Jun.30, 2010, under Blogs

Good day to you all, how are we doing this week?

Last Wednesday was very pleasant, well the after work bit, the at work bit was its usual tedious self. I met P at West India Quay (part of Canary Wharf for those that do not know where it is, but would like to) as we were going to go to the movies. We however were early so (and here is where Chuckles fast forwards) surprise, surprise we went to get something to eat. We went to a place called Noodle Street which is really nice, they do quite simple dishes but it taste good. They also have this amazing fruit juice, apple, mint and lime, its really tasty and refreshing. We then headed to the movies, we were seeing Get Him to the Greek, which I was not sure about, being of the opinion that Russell Brand was funny but it’s a bit worn now. I was very surprised as it is a really funny movie and very entertaining, though it has to be said that P Diddy (is that what he is calling himself these days?) completely stole the show and was the highlight. I would definitely say go see it if you fancy a laugh.

Last Friday I went for a quick drink at Quintessentially Soho, which I have taken to calling Qunity, no reason other than its easier to type and say, with my friend who works there, was quite fun as I like it there and they do the best chips ever, even P agrees that the chips are fantastic. I the headed East (doesn’t that sound so much more exotic than it actually is!) as was meeting P to go to movies again (last week I was desperately trying to catch up on movies, does it show?). We went to see Wild Target, which was rather amusing if a little, okay a lot, predictable, entertaining though and worth a look at.

Saturday morning saw me up and getting Milo ready as it was his day for the groomers as he needed his shower and hair cut, and his nails certainly needed cutting, my arms can testify to that. When we got there he was his usual self, refused to go in the salon, so I had to pick him up and carry him in, as he demonstrated that yes indeed his claws did need trimming. The groomer is excellent and did an amazing job he is also good with Milo as he was actually not leaping out of the shower as if acid was pouring on him, he just stood there, albeit shivering and whimpering as if he were taking a beating. He then did his usual of crying for the whole hour his hair was being cut, he really does make a meal out of it and any situation a drama, cant think where he gets that trait from!

P was working last Saturday so I decided to go see a movie, it’s a task for P to go as doesn’t like them as much as I do. So I went and saw the new Shrek movie in 3D. The 3D and effects are really good and nice to watch, but the movie was pretty boring, its run its course now I think and so it just isn’t anywhere near as good as the previous ones. It wasn’t funny, was predictable and you just sit there, well I did, waiting for something to happen, alas nothing does.

After the movie I had a text from a good friend asking if that Little P and I wanted to meet, at West India Quay, for a drink, which was quite handy as that’s where the cinema is. So off I went on the trek, across the road. It’s a couple that we were meeting, one of whom I had not seen for a very long time, it was rather good to catch up. We all had a good time, well I hope we all did, I did.

Sunday P and I decided that we were going to for a bike ride as it was so hot. When its hot Milo will not go out as he gets too hot with his fur coat on so just wants to sit on the bed with the fan, which he has assumed belongs to him and is there for his sole use. So we went to our best friends place as that is where p keeps his bike, don’t ask! I cycled there and P went on the DLR as we were leaving Milo with our best friend. I had to first inflate the tyres on his bike, he uses it so little that they were flat!!! We eventually headed off to Hyde Park, P likes it there. When we got there it was nice as we just chilled (I fell asleep at one point) we ate fruit salad that P had brought and nice bits, sunbathed and just watched the world go by. Isn’t it awful that we rarely get to just sit and relax. Its one of the main reasons that I hate London so much, its all so rushed and hurried. We cycled back as well, with P moaning about how hard it was and the saddle was hurting him. But in fairness he hadn’t cycled for a while so it cant have been easy. We have said we will cycle more often, which I hope we stick to.

In the evening we had to get everything from out of our bedroom and into the living room as we were having new wardrobes installed on the Monday. What a job that was, its incredible how much junk you build up isn’t it, we ended up throwing about 4 bin bags of things away. Milo was pacing back and forth (following the fan!!!) as every time we get the suitcase from off the wardrobe we are going away so he got it into his head that we were off on holiday (if only) and leaving him with our friend. So he was getting all anxious.

Monday was quite eventful. I had tickets to go and see the Phil Collins television show. I was going with Emma, Buzzy and the friend I hadn’t talked to for a while. The show was quite a disappointment as he didn’t do any of his hits, apart from two, didn’t sing In the Air (which was the one I wanted to hear) and his suit was too baggy and looked crumpled and worn. We also had to stand which didn’t help. On the plus side it was good to se Emma, even though she was hung-over. Great to see Buzzy, who used her bra as a handbag, talk about making a tit of yourself, thank the lord I didn’t need to use her BB!!!! She was her usual buzzing self which is always good, and looked lovely in a purple number (I swear it made her boobies look bigger).

Then when I got home, as if by magic, all the wardrobes, chest of drawers (so it was a night of chests) and bedside cabinet were up, its lovely to have wardrobes at last and have my suits, shirts and our clothes in proper places rather than hanging on racks. P had been an angel (yes I know as usual) and done most of the work before I got there, and as ever had done a brilliant job. Though I do wish that we had more time to spend together, because of our jobs and the fact we are busy, we rarely get to spend any real quality time together and it I so nice when I just get to relax and chill with him, he really is an exceptional person, the best guy I have ever known and lets be honest he deserves a medal, or five, for putting up with me, yet he never stops caring or thinking of how to make us happy. So my only wish would be to spend more time doing things together.

Boom was amazing this week, it was also Chuckles birthday, so that made it extra special, a extra special Boom for a extra special persons extra special birthday. Even if he doesn’t mention me enough on the show!!!!!

Until next week adios.

More Eating and a Maze of a Store

by Matt on Jun.23, 2010, under Blogs

Wow, then weather is amazing here at the moment, its so hot and sunny, am loving it. Well I would be if I were able to get out and enjoy it rather than be stuck in an office that has no air conditioning so I feel like a boil in the bag ready meal, not that I have ever had one you understand.n It also means I am not in the mood to write this entry really, so if its short my apologies ion advance.

So Thursday of last week P emailed me to say lets go eat out this evening where do you want to go, oh nice I thought so said Prospect, as I do like it there, its close, food is good and the atmosphere is cool. Okay he said I will meet you there at seven. That meant I had to rush there, but I still managed to get there on time, and stop off to say hello to the adorable little Milo. I came all the way from the west end (I make it sound like I am exploring some expanse of plain don’t I) and P was coming from Greenwich, which for those who don’t know is about 20 minutes away. And still he was late, how the hell does he do that. But hey, no big deal no point stressing about it as I know for a fact it will happen again! But we did have a jolly nice time even though we were sitting in the roof terrace (do you sit on or in a roof terrace?) and it got bloody cold. I like to eat out as if P had his way we would stay in every night, he cancels going to the movies more often than imaginable.

Friday P was off so he came and met me for lunch (I can see this is going to be another food review rather than blog entry, I wonder why I put on weight!). We went to a sushi place that I had heard about and the food was okay but not anything special. Still it was good to see P and get me out of the office for a while,an office I am really not liking being in lately, and it grows daily.

In the evening there was a football match on, something to do with the world cup, so I had no interest in that whatsoever, bright idea hit me, lets go to Quintessentially Soho, they wont be playing it was my amazing idea. So off P and I went there. When we got there to my horror and (ironically) P’s delight they had a screen in every room. So I sat and played on my Blackberry until it was over. Then some of our friends (one of whom was Buzzy, who needed to tell me all about her conquest of last week, yum yum) joined us and I proceeded to get very drunk and make a complete idiot of myself, why do I do it? Why don’t I stop when I am just happily drunk? Still at least I don’t do it that often anymore. Had a good night though.

Until I remembered that I was working, at the salon, the next day. I was cycling there as well, so it is very fortunate (for me but irritating for those around me) that I do not suffer from hangovers. As ever it was good to be at the salon, I only wish it was full time and then I needn’t do my other job, the full time one.

Sunday was kind of fun and kind of frustrating. For a while we have said that we will go and get wardrobes (I have been clinging to my rebellious and youthful side by having my clothes on racks, well I thought it was youthful and rebellious). So first (more food coming) we went for dim sum as P wanted to go. Then we got on a train to Chav 100, to go too IKEA. My god that place is frustrating, you have to go on a circuit the size of London, and that’s just to find a toilet. We chose the ones we wanted, ended up ordering 3 wardrobes, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet, very nice. The went downstairs to pay, took another fifteen minutes to find the way. Turns out you need to go pick the bits you want then go to a different place to arrange delivery, sod that. It also turns out you can do a different type of order upstairs, up we went again to make that type of order, then back down to pay! What a bloody trial it was.

So to cheer us up off to Costco we went and bought lots of lovely things to cheer us up.Wardrobes are being delivered on Saturday but wont get put together until Monday. There is no way that I will attempt it as know I will mess it up and we will end up with something that looks like its off the set off Steptoe & son. So we have arranged for someone to come who can do it properly.

The tube journeys have been delayed and messed up lately which is bloody annoying but I have a secret weapon that keeps me calm, it keeps me happy and stops me stressing out, its called BOOM!m and is fantastic. I only wish I could listen to it at work!

I have a new boss at work. He really doesn’t know how to use an assistant and uses me more like a secretary, which I ate and find boring, so am getting pretty unhappy as well as brain dead (more so) there. So I ma looking for something else, which is a pity as I love the brand. So if you hear of any decent posts that my skill set is transferrable to then please let me know :-0 Until next week I bid you a lovely one.

BOOM! and Race for Life

by Matt on Jun.16, 2010, under Blogs

Oh well another week bites the dust, only for its successor to step into the breach.

You know I have this friend, he is a really good friend, one of the few who I really value, have known him for about eight years and we still chat often, not as much as would like to but that’s the modern world for you, and I just wanted to mention that he is a master of many talents, but one that he excels in is entertainment. I have been none too happy of late (its all work treated) and yet no matter how down I am he always cheers me up, all I need do is grab my earphones, or turn the speakers on, and listen to him doing what he does. If you need such a lift, or just want to be entertained then you too can get his show, its called BOOM! and you can subscribe at iTunes or at www.bohica2k.com And say a hello to the amazing Chuckles from me when you do.

Last Wednesday I went, with a friend to see Bad Lieutenant, the new version. The old original, with Harvey Keitel, was really raw, violent and quite disturbing. The new one is far more mild, and not going to hit the cult status that the original did, was watchable though.

Friday that P took Rat boy for his bi monthly check up at the vet. All is in order and he is the picture of health, well he is if your picture is slightly overweight. Apparently the vet is under the impression that he could lose a bit of weight. I really cant see it myself as he looks very healthy. But when he is on this diet he is a nightmare as he sits looking at you all puppy eyed if you even think about food, he races as if he were on fire when anyone walks into the kitchen. You would think we were starving him the way he acts.

Saturday I went to see Killer Inside Me, which I got rather confused as thought it was about sex with a killer (think about it, the joke not the act). I really didn’t think it was that good, though I realise that a lot of critics have liked it, but often that’s an indication that its not worth seeing!!! Its passable I suppose, I didn’t walk out but its not very entertaining at all and is quite slow for a large part of the film.

Sunday I was up at 5.30 (there’s the reason I didn’t go out Saturday evening, at my age if you need to get up early its an early night before) as it was the City Race for Life. I was getting there alone for this one as that Buzzy was too lazy to get up, and made the pitiful excuse that she couldn’t get out of her volunteering to clear up dog pooh. So off I went alone into the day. As regular readers (and I know you can count those on one hand) will attest I do these Race for Life’s quite often, well four or five times  a year, I volunteer as cant race as am not a woman, though it has been hotly debated in the past. I actually really enjoy doing them, I help to set the course up and then I usually get the task of being a course marshal, which sounds very official but meant that I stand out on the course in a florescent yellow (that manages to clash with everything I wear, even my skin) vest and watch thousands of women run, walk, crawl past. But it is great fun and I would highly recommend it to anyone. If any of you would like to volunteer at the next one then please get in touch. Not only is it  a really good cause but on top of that its really good fun to do.

After I had finished there my friend met me with the little Man (That’s Milo to those that haven’t realised that I am a pathetic doting dad) and we headed to Spitalfields and Brick lane to have a little look round. P was at work so I had little else to do. Its become rather touristy round those areas, I remember (when all this was fields blah blah blah) when it was funky and trendy around there, its still nice but does not have the same feel it use to have.

Went to the movies on Sunday evening with P and we saw Brooklyn’s Finest. Its pretty good and I enjoyed it, well worth going to see. Its by the same director as Training Day, the same kind of feel but faster moving.

Last night I had a rather pleasant evening as I met with a friend whom I use to work with (when I was at CPW) we went to a nice Italian restaurant that I knew. Though it didn’t get to a good start as he was half an hour late, finding a parking space!!! But it gave me the chance to have a nice little glass of wine, well maybe not so little. The food was good and it was really great top catch up.

Tomorrow we are meeting up with Buzzy so no doubt can relay those exploits next week. She saw some action last week so need to hear all the gory details about that. Until then good bye.

A Short Week

by Matt on Jun.09, 2010, under Blogs

Hey, another entry is due, but it is going to be short this week (a sigh of relief reverberates) as not really feel like writing much today.

I have not been updating movies on the movie page lately, as to be perfectly honest I have not had the time, okay I will be honest, I cannot be bothered!!! But thought would mention here a movie that P and I saw last week. Do not go thinking that I am mentioning it because it blew me away and astounded me by its brilliance, alas this is not the case. It blew me away as it was predictable, corny, and complete tripe. The Losers by name and that’s exactly what kind of a movie it is, a Loser.

Last Friday I was practically rooted in Quintessentially Soho. For those that don’t have a clue, or simply no life, Quintessentially Soho is the latest pop up club in London, its quite nice there. So at Lunch time a colleague and I went for lunch there, we got a garden table and it was rather pleasant as the weather was hot and sunny. The food was nice too, great to get away from the office even if was for just a short period. Then in the evening I was back there again as was meeting a friend for a drink, well we met at the Edge, I met P there first then our friend came, half an hour late!!!! We then headed over the road to the club. It was nice as we could just sit on the couches and chill out whilst drinking. P ordered some bar food and I have to say the chips were really tasty and I don’t normally like chips at all. Later our friends girlfriend joined us and we had not met her before but its safe to safe (because he doesn’t read this blog) that she is far to good for him. We managed to drink three bottles, or four, I forget, but when the bill came they had only charged for one, bonus.

Saturday I was at the salon, I cycled there and back, so that was cool. I am still really enjoying it there and like the work. The people are rather nice to, a really friendly team.

Sunday P was working again so I just went for a walk with Milo and our best friend, to Spitalfields which was okay. We looked around a bit, had coffee, where Milo decided that he would sit and beg at every table that remotely had  a view of him. I don’t know why he bothered as he knows he doesn’t have dairy products or chocolate so couldn’t have been given anything anyway, probably just for the attention. We then dropped him off at home and went to the movies, saw Death at a Funeral, which is very amusing and better to go and see than Losers.

Yesterday saw me back at Quintessentially Soho with a friend who wanted to go see what its like, then just sat moaning it was an anti climax, didn’t stop him wanting his old boss to see him walking in though did it!!!! P joined us after a while too. Then P and I went to get dinner.

Boom is keeping me smiling as it always does, its bouncingly fabulous, go subscribe now.

See you next week.

Another Short One But a Long Weekend

by Matt on Jun.02, 2010, under Blogs

And so another week and another entry here.

Last Thursday I met a friend for lunch. I don’t often take a lunch break so it was quite a nice change. We went to this Japanese place in Soho, and didn’t have sushi, I don’t like to be a cliché! My friend has just had a promotion so it was rather jolly to meet up and get bored to tears hearing about that erm I mean it was very nice to hear all about his promotion and all that shit. But he is a really nice guy and I needed a chat anyway, got some quite sound advice which was nice.

Last Friday saw P, Rat Boy and I jumping on a train to head up north, well to Woolaston anyway. What the hell we going there for you scream, well we were visiting my parents who live there. Its crazy as I booked the train a few months ago and it worked out cheaper to go first class. Little P loved it and has vowed to always go first now, if you get something free then he just believes its the best thing ever!

We had taken a new Blackberry to my mum and so that was P weekend gone as he spent most of the time setting it up for her then showing her how to use it, then answering her questions, then showing her again as she got it wrong, then setting up something else she wanted, then showing her what she had again forgotten. All fun and games!

Milo loved it there as there was a garden at his disposal and he could run in and out to his hearts desire, and he made the most of the opportunity as was in and out constantly, even running into the patio door at one point in his eagerness to get to the garden. On the Saturday it was pouring with rain, well what do you expect for a bank holiday weekend. So we headed to a farm shop (I think I am getting rather old as I really enjoy looking round the farm shops near where my mum lives, as if to compound this there was a cottage for sale and I fell in love with it, where did I put my knitting) but it was raining so hard that it was a right off so, much to Milo’s delight, we headed top the Pets at home store. Milo of course reigned havoc on us sniffing at everything and determined to bite through all the treats, food, toys and anything else that remotely looked chewable.

Sunday the weather was nice, sunny but windy, so we went for a walk across the fields and just enjoyed the view and watched Milo running about. All in all it was a really nice weekend and I do wish we would go away more often but getting P to organise anything or commit to time away is next to impossible. Still I am having dreams of living in the cottage still and no one can take that away from me.

Monday I was stuck with my best friend for the day so used the opportunity to get some shopping done and we went to another Pets at Home (I really should just move in far simpler) and got one of those under gravel bubble things for the aquarium, and its great, it looks really effective and with that and the new filter the water is so clear. Oh how the little things please me.

BOOM! is amazing and if you don’t listen to it you are mad crazy and demented, its free and its groovy, funky and ear blastingly awesome, go get it today.

See you next week.
