Repo Men
Jude Law, Liev Scgreiber and Forrester Whittaker together was bound to be a good movie, or at least some good acting. This one is rather far fetched but very entertaining. The acting is as you would expect from the three mentioned before, very good. The story is a little predictable, at least I thought so, but the sting in the tale that is the twist is very good and I didn’t see it coming, though like most twists the clues are there if you look. The direction is very good and the lighting and photography really creates a good atmosphere and keeps you watching. The score to be honest I didn’t really notice too much, so I am guessing its well thought out and matches the visuals. The special effects are very good and if you are squeamish as I am then they are a little too realistic in places, I hid my face from some of the more bloody scenes. Enjoyable, go see.
Kick Ass
This looked like a pretty good movie from the trailer, and its is a good movie. Its very witty and very amusing, its
one of those that actually make tyou laugh. It is ridiculing the super hero movies and does a good job of doing so, especially Nicholas Cages voice, where he hams up like the old 70’s Batman with the pauses and way his dialogu is spoken. The cast are very good, Nicholas Cage and Aaron Johnson leading. The costumes are brilliant, and very imaginative so the wardrobe have really put their thinking hats on for this one. The ploty is predictible but it actaullay adds to the story rather than taking from it and the script is very funny indeed. The disrection is good, the sets good, its actually a very good movie.
Clash of the Titans
I went to see this movie for the special effects and they are really good, I saw the 3D version which made them all the more enjoyable. Unfortunately the joy ended there. This movie has an incredible cast, amongst them are Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Nicholas Hoult to name a few, and how they signed up is betond me as this movie is dire. Its too long winded, its boring, its tacky and the plot is so predictible that you know exactly where each frame ios going. Wait for the DVD.
I Love You Phillip Morris
I only went to see this as it lookedmilsdly amusing, but in fact it is not. Its hilarious, this has to be one of the funniest movies of the year. I was surprised as Jim carey and Ewan McGregor work really well together, they lead a good and well put together cast. The script is excellent and the plot moves along at a teally good pace, in fact if anything the mocvie could have been a little longer. The score really gels with the movie and the songs they have chosen really fit in well, its been very well thought out by the loks of it. The direction is good and its been crafted pretty slickly. The locations and sets are good. But wjhat really shines is the humour and the two lead actors who make this good film into a very good one, you must see this movie.
Blind Side
This is the movie that Sandra Bullock won the Oscar for. We are more use to seeing her in comedy roles where she
hams it up, so this was quite a step for her. And she deserves that Oscar was my conclusion after seeing this. Its based on a true story and the editors and screen writers have done a great job of bringing this to the screen. The plot is captivating and has you wanting to watch it, its a long movie but you don’t actually realise that at the time as the movie is captivating. The acting, Bullock aside, is really good and the actors have done an excellent job on this, the direction is seamless and obviously a lot of passion has gone into this movie. It is a really exceptionally moving movie and I would wholly recommend going to see it.
Crazies
I have to say, and am loathed to admit it but I really enjoyed this movie, it is predictable, its unoriginal, the acting is
average, its not going to be on the Oscars short list next year, but I still liked it. The casting is good in that the characters are well suited to the actor portraying them and the cast gel well. The score is as you gave come to expect from this genre. The photography and editing is actually pretty good and that makes it less trashy than other movies of this ilk. The plot is pretty average and you re not going to need to concentrate too much on this one. But as I say I still enjoyed it.
Shutter Island
This is one of thosemovies that receives a lot of press and hype, mainly as its a Scorsese and DiCaprio movie. And it has to be said they do make a good combination. The casting is pretty good, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Kingsley lead a cast that is well balanced and work well together. The directionis as seamless as you have come to expect from Scorsese, his passion, flair and individualstyle shine through. Score is average on this and nothing that is worth making a special note about. The plot is pretty good, it goes at a good speed keeping you intrigued and watching, but not wholly original and not one that is going to have you rushing back to watch it again. All in all a good film but could be a whole lot better.
Alice in Wonderland
Wow, this movie is amazing, I am quite unsure where to begin with the praises. You expect a good movie when movies ‘dream team’ of Burton, Depp and Bonham-Carter get together but this excels and surpasses itself. The cast is vast, the
likes of Stephen Fry, Matt Lucas, Paul Whitehouse, Anne Hathaway, Martin Sheen to name but a few, then of course there is Bonham-Carter who is her usual excellent self, but Depp as ever, takes centre stage, I found it hard to take my eyes off of him, he is captivating and outstanding in this movie. The direction is amazing, the usual dark and quirkiness that you expect from Burton, and he doesn’t disappoint. The score is Danny Elfman, as Burton movies usually are, and he does a excellent job of heightening the mood. Sets and lighting are exquisite and faultless, the effects are seamless and astoundingly well used in this movie. This is a great movie, I loved it.
From Paris With Love
This is from the same team that brought us Taken which is one of my favourite movies. You know what to expect if you have seen Taken, as the title suggests this is also set in Paris. The cast is headed by John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers who work surprisingly well together and have quite a rapport. The story hold no surprises whatsoever and you know where its going and whats going to come next, but it does have some great one liners, is quite amusing and a very good movie to watch if you just want to be entertained. The score is high octave though there is one part where they turn the usual cliche music on its head and it really makes a good moment. The direction is pretty good and the effects are also well utilised and done well. Go see.
Last Station
This is a movie that I wanted to see as I am a Helen Mirren fan, and she does not disappoint in this, her performance is
outstanding and along with a good cast including Christopgher Plummer, James McAvoy, Paul Giamatti the acting is faultless, very good casting in this as the characters work really well together. The score is also very good and works with the story very well enhancing the experience as a good score should. The story is a true one and it is told with compassion and empathy, it moves at just the right pace and keeps you entertained on the roller coaster of emotions. Direction is to be admired. Definitely one to go see.
